TRAI: Telephone subscriber base in India has increased

The Telecom regulatory Authority of India has stated that, the total telephone subscriber base in India has increased slightly in the month of July. The total subscribers’ base has reached to 94.64 crore with the addition of 34.5 lakh users. The data also highlights that 946.40 million telephone subscribers in the month of julu, which shows the growth of 0.37 percent every month.

The urban subscription also witnessed growth in the same segment, 56.24 crore users were seen in the month of July, which is better as compared 55.97 crore at the end of June. On the other hand, the rural areas also show growth in the user base with 38.39 crore subscribers. An increase is been seen in the total tele density of the country as per the data. The overall tele density is been recorded as 76 percent. Apart from this the total subscriber base for wireless subscribers has also increased to 0.42 percent and has reached to 98.87 crore. The total wireless tele density accounts to 73.78 percent.

As per TRAI, the private telecom operators hold 90.05 per cent of the wireless subscriber market share. However, BSNL and MTNL are the two PSU operators whi hold only 9.95 per cent market share. Among the private telecom operators Vodafone has added maximum subscribers to its users base which accounts to 17.12 crore. Airtel on the other hand has the user base of 20.97 crore and Idea Cellular has the subscriber base of 14.01 crore.

The other telecom operators also witnessed a growth in the user base. Uninor added a good number of users which takes it user base to 4.01 crore. RCom has the subscriber base of 10.93 crore. Tata Teleservices has the user base of 6.34 crore and BSNL has witnessed a decrease in the user base with 8.80 crore subscribers. Aircel also added subscribers and its user base accounts to 7.39 crore and Sistema Shyam Teleservices added 40,840 users during July to take its base to 91.94 lakh.

The regulator also said that, the total number of users who applied for the MNP service is 2.86 million. The data also shows that the wireline subscriber base has declined from 2.80 crore o 2.76 crore. According to the reports from the broadband service providers, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 68.83 million at the end of June to 70.81 million at the end of July.
