Government planning to hold spectrum auction in February

The Government is planning for another round of spectrum auction. The auction will be held in February for GSM and CDMA and the Government plans to raise Rs 9,355 crore through this auction. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has also suggested some recommendations in this regard. If these recommendations are finalized on time then the specturm auction will be scheduled for 3 February, 2015. 

As reported by PTI, an official source disclosed that, in budget estimates for the current financial year, a projection of Rs. 9,355 crore has been made from auction of 800MHz (CDMA), 900MHz and 1800MHz (GSM) spectrum. The Government has set the total target revenue of Rs 45,471 from communication services, which includes three sets of spectrum frequencies and related charges in this financial year.

Going by the plan as suggested by the Wireless Finance Section of Department of Telecom, the process of selecting the auctioneer can begin in a months’ time. Moreover, all the guidelines regarding the proposed auction will be made available by 1 December, 2014.
