Dr. Gopichand Katragadda appointed as the CTO of Tata Sons

Tata sons, has appointed Dr. Gopichand Katragadda as the new Chief Technology Officer of the company. He will resume the office from 3 August, 2014 and would be diretly reporting to the Chairman of the company Cyrus P. Mistry. As part of the new job Dr. Katragadda will be looking after the technology at the group level and will be supervising and managing the R&D operations. He will also be taking care of creating technology stratergies for white spaces and will be performing as the revivalist of innovative technologies for the company.

Dr. Katragadda has served GE India Technology Centre as the Managing Director before joining Tata Sons. There he guided the team of 5,000 scientists and engineers. In his 12 years long career with the organisation he managed to create new technology teams and helped in commissioning new research labs. It was under his supervision and expertise that GE became the largest integrated multidisciplinary R&D centre. Prior to joining GE, he worked with Karta Technologies and also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas.

Apart from this astonishing professional career he has also authored a book titled ‘SMASH’ which deals with the subject of innovation. He also has around 30 publications and 5 patents under his name. He has also been associated with a number of important forums like the Government of Karnataka’s Vision Group on Information Technology and many others. He has also been a founder of an NGO that works in India regarding literacy, leadership and trust.

Talking about his educational qualifications, Dr. Katragadda holds MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. He graduated from the Iowa state university and was also chosen as the Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology in 2014.
