TRAI to give recommendations on spectrum pricing by end of October

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is all set to come out with some recommendations on the spectrum pricing for the upcoming spectrum auction by end of next October. The regulator started the consultation process regarding the same as some of the telecom licenses are set to expire.

TRAI will also be suggesting the reserve price for the spectrum which is all set to be auctioned in the 900 Mhz and 1800 MHz band. The bands are suitable for the GSM service providers as they support GSM technology. Apart from this the regulator also organized an open house discussion, which involved the industry experts to get the views about the reserve prices.

The telecom licenses of four telecom operators namely Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and RCom are set to expire by December, 2015. The telcos can get the licenses renewed by paying a fixed amount of fees. However, in order to continue with the mobile and other wireless services they will need to buy spectrum afresh through auction at market determined rates.
